The Road Agent is a town official appointed by the Board of Selectmen, who is responsible for maintenance of Jackson’s 35 miles of roadway and other town properties.

Duties performed by the road agent and his crew include grading roads, filling potholes, cold patching, repairing or replacing culverts, and cleaning ditches. Posting of load limits and road closings also fall under responsibilities of the road agent.

Crews also cut town lawns, maintain town paths and cut and clip limbs and roadside brush.

In winter, crews are responsible for plowing and sanding roads and even determine when school should be closed if roads are not passable.
